Jo Malone | Myrrh and Tonka Cologne Intense

I have been wearing the same perfume for many years (Chanel Coco Mademoiselle), and although I still love wearing it, I thought it was time to switch things up a bit. I am however incredibly fussy; I don't wear everything and anything or fragrances everyone seems to own.
I like fragrances which are unique, different, long lasting (biggest seller for me), and are appropriate / suitable for me. Jo Malone is a brand that I have seen time and time again but never really investigated further, until one afternoon I was passing my local branch and decided to pop in. And boy am I glad that I did.

I spent a good 15 - 20 minutes spraying / sniffing all the perfumes, none of them really made me think WOW, until I sprayed the Cologne Intense Myrrh and Tonka, and that was it, captivated. The scent I can only describe as being dark, seductive, with mysterious notes of a creamy, but subtle vanilla and almond aroma from the tonka bean, with a hint of dried lavender which is incredibly soft and forgiving. It is incredibly rich and sensual, with a heavy sweetness touch, whilst being balanced out by the darker notes of the perfume.

The scent that first hits when sprayed, is almost herbal-like; fresh which comes from the lavender which is quite surprising. It is not an overpowering scent, I should add, if anything, it is very subtle, you can hardly smell it. However once this settles, you begin to smell the smoky scents gradually coming through (myrrh), which then turns sweet from the vanilla and almond pulling through. Some may say ''this sounds sickly sweet'', wrong . . .once the sweetness settles it then turns into a sexy spicy mix, which then develops into a captivating scent that lingers for hours on end. I kid you not, when I first tried this in store I thought I would trial before purchasing. I sprayed my wrists / coat / neck at approximately 1:30pm, and by 10:30pm, I could STILL smell it! Incredible! That instantly had me sold!

However, this isn't a fragrance for the faint hearted or one that is dropped into your weekly shopping trolley! In terms of price, this perfume is 'up' there with Chanel prices. For the 100ml this comes in at £112.00, and 50ml £74.00. I opted for the 50ml, as the Sales Advisor did say it'll last an incredibly long time, as a little goes a long way, and she was right!

Top note: Lavender

Heart note: Omumbiri Myrrh

Base notes: Tonka bean, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Almond

Are you a fan of Jo Malone fragrances? If so, what is your favourite? Would love to hear your thoughts.
