GlamGlow | Gift Sexy YouthMud Set

GlamGlow . . .GlamGlow . . . a brand I have heard knocking about the beauty sphere for an incredibly long time. In fact the first person I heard mention it was FleurDeForce, during one of her haul videos. As with anything I see that is 'hyped', I tend to walk far and wide; if you haven't already guessed I don't buy into everything and anything. I tend to let everything settle / die down before I go back to something, research thoroughly before deciding whether or not it is worth investing in. GlamGlow however was a brand I kept seeing over and over again appear in shops, blog posts, youtube videos, and so I knew this was something not to be ignored.

What is GlamGlow?

In a nutshell, GlamGlow is a line of volcanic mud-based exfoliating masks originally created for Hollywood actors, musicians, and performers as a way to have camera-ready skin. GlamGlow products aim to target a variety of skin complaints, i.e. anti-ageing, firming, brighten, hydration, problem skin, detox, and are widely available to the general public.

I popped into Boots (US equivalent to Sephora / CVS) on my lunch break and came across the GlamGlow Sexy YouthMud Gift Set. With the eye catching packaging (neon pink bow, covered in glitter box), I couldn't help but notice this set twinkling by itself on the shelf. With skin suffering because of the winter and hormonal zit eruptions, I was looking for something to target and deal with these issues promptly. GlamGlow products are not cheap, however I figured as this was a gift set, it was a perfect opportunity to test out the products in particular the SuperMud which I was eager to try.

Included in the set:

  • GlamGlow YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment 50g Jar
  • GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment 30g Tube
  • GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment 30g Tube

As with anything new, I like to give products a good few weeks trial before doing a review, but this simply could not wait. Two weeks of using, and I'm itching to feedback my thoughts on each mask.

GlamGlow YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment 50g Jar

Originally designed as GlamGlow's professional '10 minute facial' in a jar for behind-the-scenes use in Hollywood's entertainment world. YouthMud aims to provide gentle resurfacing exfoliation and helps to leave skin looking and feeling smoother, brighter and softer resulting in immediate camera ready glowing skin.
What makes this mask unique is its patented Teaoxi technology with real Green Tea Leaf; promising to deliver powerful anti-aging and anti-wrinkle results, with fresh antioxidants in the mud to hydrate, balance oil production and fight free radical damage. French Sea Clay detoxifies & awakens the skin by drawing out impurities, while Ivy helps tone, tighten and lift the skin. Volcanic Rock also works by revitalising dull, dry skin with its multi-level surface exfoliation, resulting in smoother, brighter, softer skin.

Texture / Smell: The mask is thick in consistency but is very easy to work into the skin. As for the smell, it is very strong. You can smell the lavender, ivy and comfrey herb, but mainly the green leaf which is quite overpowering but tolerable.

To use: Apply a thin layer to clean skin, ensuring you avoid the eye area. Leave on the skin for 10 minutes or less and expect serious tingling to begin. I thought my face was burning / having a reaction, but this soon subsided after 5 minutes. Remove the mask with warm water, in circular motions exfoliating the skin. Use twice a week or as often as desired.

Results: Honestly? It's ok, but it's not my favourite. My face often feels taut, dry, but incredibly soft and smooth. Did I notice a significant difference in the appearance of my skin? No, in fact there was only a slight improvement. If I am honest, in comparison to  SuperMud, that is a better mask. Results are almost instant and is a bit less 'tingly'!. I will use this again, but perhaps not as often as the SuperMud.

GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment 30g Tube

Suffering with dry / dehydrated skin? Then this is definitely for you. ThirstyMud is a hydrating mask which aims to give your skin some serious hydration and a moisture boost. With its thick and creamy consistency, loaded with ingredients, such as Dewdration, Hyaluronic acid, HydraPack, to name but a few, this mask most definitely assists in restoring the skin back to its normal state.

Texture / Smell: A very light non-greasy mask which is silky smooth and glides onto the skin well. No sticky residue or is it watery in consistency which makes for working with the mask straightforward / simple. As for the smell, simply divine, almost tropical in fact and very pleasant.

To use: There are a variety of ways of using this mask:
  • Day - Apply a thin layer of the mask and leave for 10 - 20 minutes. Afterwards, wipe of any excess with a cotton pad, and then massage any residue into the skin.
  • Night - Apply and work well into the skin, allowing the mask to infuse well and moisturise throughout the night.
  • In-Flight - Apply at the beginning of your flight, and leave on for the duration.
I personally prefer to use this at night, purely because my face suffers during the day from the cold / wind, and night time is the perfect opportunity to repair / take care of my skin. I have not been on a flight in the last 2 weeks to use this product, but I can imagine the same principle at night, would work equally the same as on a plane. Once applied I do experience a slight tingle but this disappears after 5 minutes,.

Results: The following morning, my skin did feel like moisturise had been restored. It didn't feel taut / sore and I had a bit of a glow to my skin. I feel however I would need to use this on a regular basis, say two times a week to really see drastic improvements. But for now, it works and has started doing exactly what it says on its tin!

GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment 30g Tube

SuperMud is a clearing treatment mask that has been created to target common skin concerns. Its main ingredients are:

  • Acnecidic-6 4.4% - the first 6-Acid AHA & BHA PH balanced blend for quick  results.
  • Pore -Matrix Technology -Toxic substances which are extracted from all skin types by the ingredient Activated-X, from the deepest and toughest areas.
  • K17 Clay - Excess sebum oils, bacteria and toxins are extracted
  • Bio Life Cell Science - Advanced results are achieved from the natural occurring skincare benefits of green life
  • Teaoxi Technology - As with the YouthMud, same principle used for SuperMud but with Eucalyptus Leaf, which aims to deliver fresh, natural eucalyptol and natural-linalool oil  contributing to glowing skin,

In my opinion, this is actually an 'all in one' product; it minimises pores, rejuvenates the skin, and zaps zits on the 'spot'. Genius, what more can I ask for?. Eager to try, I wasted no time, and got applying this mask to my cleansed skin.

Texture / Smell: The clue is in the title 'mud', so it is dark / charcoal in colour with a consistency which wasn't as thick as I anticipated. However in hindsight I realise this is a good thing especially when removing the mask. There were also little pieces of what felt like seaweed in the mask, which I found quite therapeutic and soothing on my skin. As for the smell, very potent / strong, but this soon faded once the mask had time to settle and work into the skin.

To use: Apply a thin layer of the product onto cleansed skin, starting with your T zone and then working your way outwards, avoiding the eye area. Leave on the skin for 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes until the mask starts to dry and turn pale grey. You may begin to feel slight tingling, which did scare me at first but after 5 minutes this quickly subsided. As the mask begins to the dry, the 'Pore Matrix' starts to work; sebum, bacteria and toxins begin to extract from your skin, leaving little dots all over your face. I was actually mortified to see how many dots appeared, but surprised at the same time to see just how much oil my T zone was harbouring. After 15 minutes, I simply washed off with warm water, pat dry and apply my products as normal.

Results: I noticed an immediate difference; my skin felt smooth, soft, looked brighter and less 'angry'. My face no longer felt tight, due to the cold weather and the pores on my face had significantly reduced, which I was pleasantly surprised by. What I have also noticed days after using the black and whiteheads are coming to the surface of the skin quicker, and extracting is a lot easier.

The RRP for this set was £39.00 but because it was the last one on the shelf, in the January 'get rid of christmas stock' sales, I managed to bag this for a mere £26.00. Bargain! Considering this gift set came with a full sized 50g jar (tinglexfoliate) which on its own RRP at £39.00, this was a very good buy. The full sized jars are not cheap, and some argue they are incredibly expensive for what they are. But this is why I opted for snapping up this set as it's a great way to trial the product(s) before committing to buying full size.

Overall Thoughts

Impressed! Face masks I tend to have a love / hate relationship with. Sometimes they're great, and other times, I think why did I bother. But GlamGlow masks really have reinstated my faith that there are masks out there that do work on the skin concern you have. All 3 masks in this set are worth investing in, in fact I am already looking to purchase the full sized jars of the SuperMud and ThirstyMud. As mentioned above, the full sized jars are expensive so if you're not ready to part with £39 for a face mask, invest in a glamglow gift set to sample / try before you buy!

Have you ever tried the GlamGlow products? If so, what are your favourites? Would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I've heard really good things about Glam glow and think I might invest and try it out. I definitely want to try the mud clearing treatment. Great review :)

    1. Definitely give it a try; SuperMud is my favourite. Such a significant improvement to my skin after application / few uses. :)

  2. I've heard so much about Glam Glow so maybe I should give it a try as my skin's not been so great.

    1. Yes, give them a try. I was a bit dubious after hearing a lot of people say how amazing they were. But they really are amazing, especially the SuperMud, love that one.
